The Eagles Tame the Broncos

February 23, 2016

Tonight found the Eagles facing off against the Broncos of Western Michigan in the battle of the Wolverine Line. Eastern was coming off against their hard fought battle against Toledo and the Broncos were coming off a victory against the Chippewas. I was hoping for a good game and I think I got one.

The Good:
1. Eastern had four players scoring in double digits: Mangum with 16, Thompson with 14, Toney and Lee with 13 each.
2. Thompson was two rebounds from another double-double. Like I said for the last game, I think if he can gain more discipline, he will be something special.
3. Once Eastern got a build up of steam, it seemed like they weren’t going to look back (except for a moment…more about that below).

The Bad:
1. The second half free throw shooting was hovering around 55%. I really think they need to work on that a little more.
2. They came flat for about the first 3 or 4 minutes of the second half, but once they built up that steam again…
3. I think they will live by the three and die by the three.

The Ugly:
1. Once again…the refs.

What’s the deal with MAC refs? Where do they get them? Do they just do the MAC games or what?

It depends it looks like. One of the refs looks like an NHL ref too (not that that’s a stunning endorsement either). Another one has done parts of the NCAA tournament. But I’m not sure….

    Hey Ken,

We should do some research to see if we can find where the MAC gets them. I know as a former wrestling coach that I could get a certification for reefing even though its been years since I coached.

They must have a pool from which they get them and cross state certification as well. I was shocked when the MAC actually did something about that Ball State fiasco.

Be interesting if we could put something to get the MAC moving toward better training and reffing for these guys. What do you think? Can it be done?
