EMU 70, Vermont 50
Well, that’s certainly a good start to the basketball season; for a few hours, EMU has the best record in the country!
Playing without star guard Raven Lee (Jeremy will have more on that), the Eagles led for most of the first half before falling behind at halftime. In the second half, EMU poured it on, outscoring the Catamounts 43-20.
Key performers for EMU were Brandon Nazione with a double double (10 points, 10 rebounds) Willie Mangum (18 points, 4 steals), and Tim Bond (15 points on 7-10 shooting). The Eagles shot 43% overall and 51.9% in the second half, while holding Vermont to just 26.7% after halftime. Considering that Vermont is expected to have a pretty good defense, and that Lee didn’t play, I’d call it a highly successful first outing for the 2015-16 men’s basketball team.
Next up, the Eagles will make the short trip to Rochester, Michigan, to face the Oakland University Grizzlies in the O’rena next Wednesday, November 18 at 7 pm.
