EMU women’s basketball to host free exhibition game tonight
As we prepare to flush the toilet on yet another forgettable football season, basketball is right around the corner. We’ll have more basketball coverage here in the days to come, but I wanted to get things started with a reminder that the women will host Wayne State in an exhibition game tonight. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 pm, and admission is free.
Tonight won’t be the first game for Wayne State, as they lost Saturday in exhibition at Notre Dame, 101-52. Before you look at that score and think that the Warriors are a joke, remember that the Fighting Irish have been in the Final Four five straight years, finishing as runners-up four times, and the expectation is that they’ll be back there in the spring. With a team of that caliber hosting a Division II opponent, the score could have been a lot uglier. Wayne State is expected to finish third in the GLAIC South Division, behind Ashland and Walsh, and tied with Findlay.
Speaking of expectations, with most of the team returning from last year’s finish as MAC Tournament runners-up and trip to the WNIT Sweet 16, the Eagles were narrowly picked over Ball State as the favorites to win the MAC West. Cha Sweeney, who finished fourth in the MAC in both scoring and assists, was the sole pick for the Preseason All-MAC West team.
Tonight’s game will not be televised or streamed online, nor will there be a radio broadcast as far as I can tell. But it’s free, and the team should be good, so get yourself over to the Convo tonight and watch some basketball!
