EMU at Michigan State open thread

September 20, 2014

Game day! I’m posting this early today to give everyone time to read it and then get up to East Lansing for the game.

While you’ve got a few minutes this morning, and before you get too far into consuming your beverage of choice, go ahead and review all our coverage for this game: Know Your Foe, the Eagle Totem Roundtable, Jeremy’s commentary on the state of Michigan State, the game preview, and the depth chart.

It’s nice enough in East Lansing right now — partly cloudy and temperatures in the upper 50s, and while the temperatures will stay nice, topping out in the mid-70s near the end of the game, the forecast does call for thunderstorms to roll in around 3 PM, with a 70% chance of rain rising to a near-certainty as the afternoon turns into evening (so you may not want to stick around for any post-game tailgating).

Kickoff is scheduled for 12:01 PM in Spartan Stadium. If you’re going, the EMU Alumni Association will host a tailgate at the northeast corner of the stadium, near Gate L, starting at 9 AM (if you didn’t pre-register, it’s $25 at the door). Also, band!

If you’re not going, you’ve probably got your away game routine down by now. The rain shouldn’t hit Ypsi until late in the game or the evening, so go ahead and fire up the grill, set some of your favorite local brew on ice, and invite your friends over. We all agree that as the Cupcake Wars go, this one’s not so bad. In case you’re wondering, Michigan State is listed as a 45-point favorite, with the over set at 55, implying an expected final score of about 50-5.

The game will be broadcast on the Big Ten Network. The EMU radio broadcast will be on WEMU, 89.1 FM (or listen online for free). Don’t forget to follow @EMUFB@EagleTotemblog, and keep an eye on #EMUFB on Twitter. And of course, you can always share your thoughts — whether about the EMU game or anything else1 — in the comments here.

See you at the game — and wear green so we know it’s you!

28-0 at the end of the first half. This is worse than the Florida game.

Give the guy a break. He inherited an almost demoralized team from last season. Lost three guys to arrest and a few other things. As I said on my day 0 post, you don’t turn a ship around on a dime.

A little early to drag Creighton over the coals. He inherited a team that was in complete disarray, then immediately lost 3 starters to arrest. Two weeks to prepare for Akron. I still don’t think they’re ready to win games, but Akron isn’t great so they should be able to keep it close. If it’s another 73-14 slaughter, then get a little concerned.

    Dear Art,
Coach Creighton doesn’t play. To blame him for the loss on Saturday is not completely fair.
If you watched the game, there were countless dropped passes by our receivers that would have moved the ball down field. Bronson Hill’s fumble at our twenty five yard line when the score was already 14-0 and led to another score by Michigan State didn’t help Eastern’s cause.
The players have to make plays, not the coaches. Now back to the coaches. I don’t think any person who follows Eastern thought that this was going to be an easy season in the sense that Coach Creighton would just have to show up and the wins would automatically happen. If you did, then you are sadly disappointed.
I still think that this team can still win some games this season, but they have to improve on such things as catching the football.

Not to mention, there were a couple of times where the defense actually did stop Michigan State only to have the ball fumbled on the punt return….A couple of those were inside the 10 yard line. By my calculations, 28 of those 73 points were off turnovers.
