EMU vs Howard open thread
After 280 football-less days, it’s finally time. While you’ve got a few minutes this morning, and before you get too far into consuming your beverage of choice, go ahead and review all our coverage this week: Know Your Foe, the opponent preview, the EMU depth chart, and Jeremy’s commentary. Since it’s the first game of the season, it probably wouldn’t hurt to take a second look at the Rynearson Stadium 2013 game-day guide.
The weather for today should be beautiful. No storm delays for us this year, not even a little one like Western Michigan and Michigan State had last night. Any lingering storms should already be gone by now, with nothing but clear skies behind them. From early-afternoon through kickoff, we should see partly cloudy skies with temperatures in the 78-80 range; once the game starts the skies should clear with the temperature dropping to the low 70s by the time we’re through. There should be no need for umbrellas,1 ponchos, or jackets.
Kickoff is scheduled for 6:04, but as always, you should get into Rynearson early to watch the marching band’s pre-game show. I always forget their exact start time, but heading into the stadium at 5:45 should give you plenty of time. And plan ahead to stay in your seat at halftime, because in addition to the Pride of the Penninsula, we’ll also have the chance to enjoy the Howard “Showtime” Marching Band — last time they were here I commented that they were one of the best-sounding college marching bands I’d ever heard, and I’ve been eager to hear them again.
If you can’t make it, the game will be webcast on ESPN3 — check out the Mid-American Conference’s special ESPN3 page — and the radio broadcast will be on WEMU, 89.1 FM (or listen online for free). Don’t forget to follow @EMUFB, @EagleTotemblog, and keep an eye on #EMUFB on Twitter. And of course, you can always share your thoughts — whether about the EMU game or anything else2 — in the comments here. As in the past, we’ll be at the post-game press conference, so feel free to suggest any questions.
