Alex Gillett was cut by the Green Bay Packers over the weekend, ahead of this afternoon’s deadline for teams to get down to a 75-man roster. I’ve read nothing but good things about Gillett’s performance with the team, and some observers are theorizing that he could still make the practice squad this fall.
Meanwhile Andy Mulumba is still in the running for a roster spot as a linebacker for the Packers. Unless I’m missing someone, Mulumba is the last uncut EMU rookie in the NFL.
EMU baseball will host a golf outing September 15 at Eagle Crest.
Five episodes of “Eastern Michigan All-Access” will air on Fox Sports Detroit this year.
The EMU soccer team began their season with a 3-2 win over Detroit Friday, followed by a 2-1 loss in overtime at #23 Ohio State. Goalie Megan McCabe was named the MAC Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for her performance in those two games. The soccer team’s next game will be this Friday at 7:30 PM at Michigan.
EMU sophomore Alysha Newman — the reigning indoor and outdoor MAC pole vaulting champion — competing for the Canadian Junior National Team, won the pole vault at the Pan American Junior Athletics Championships, setting a Canadian junior and Pan American junior record with her vault of 4.40 meters.
CBS Sports has released their football coach “hot seat” ratings, putting Ron English at 4.0 (out of 5.0), which they classify as “Warm seat, better start winning”, which makes me wonder what it takes to get a 5! (HT @broncofitz) Meanwhile, ESPN has rated “EMU head coach” as the second-worst job in college football, behind New Mexico State.
