Men’s basketball recruiting update
With less than a week to go until the signing period starts (April 11), it seems like time to take a look at how EMU’s incoming class of 2012 is shaping up.
Jacobby Bledsoe – A 5’8″ 150 pound point guard from Hamilton Southeastern HS (Indianapolis), Scout rates Bledsoe as a 2-star recruit. In addition to EMU, Bledsoe is reported to be considering offers from Colorado State, Dayton, Drake, Northern Illinois, Oregon State, Western Kentucky, and Western Michigan. According to ESPN’s year-old scouting report, “Jacobby is a quick little skilled point guard. He can score and is a good creator for himself and others. He has a solid handle which, combined with his quickness, allows him to get into the lane almost at will.”
Verbal commitments to EMU:
Ray Lee – The point guard, rated three stars by Scout, Rivals, and ESPN, has verbally committed to come to EMU. Previously discussed.
Jalen Ross – A 5’11” 175 pound point guard from Greensboro (NC) Day School. No rankings, no ratings. Scout says he’s verbally committed to EMU. Previously discussed.
James Still – A 6’10” 215 pound power forward/center from Detroit Community HS, Still was a 3-star recruit in the class of 2009 who signed with Providence over offers from Detroit and Xavier. As a freshman at Providence in the 2009-10 season he averaged 1 point and 1.3 rebounds in 5.6 minutes per game (26 games played). In April 2010, Still was in a bar fight (why was a 19-year-old freshman in a bar, anyway?) with teammate Vincent Council. Days later Still and Johnnie Lacy, also a freshman for the Friars, attacked and beat another Providence student (a male senior, apparently chosen at random) and both were charged with felony assault (both pleaded not guilty…no word on what happened after that…) and expelled from the school. Since then he’s been at Henry Ford Community College where he’s stayed out of trouble — or at least out of the headlines — and in 25 games played this year he averaged more than 15 points, 12 rebounds, and 5 blocks per game. He’ll have two years of college eligibility left, and Scout says he’s verbally committed to EMU.
So, a quick and completely uninformed (I can’t stress that enough) guess suggests that the 2012-13 depth chart might look something like this.
|Austin Harper||Derek Thompson||Daylen Harrison||Glenn Bryant||Da’Shonte Riley|
|Ray Lee||J.R. Sims||Glenn Bryant||Jamel Harris||Matt Balkema|
